One example of the level of expertise in the shooting sports that you will find when you visit Delaware's premier headquarters for all types of firearms and ammunition is this: For a consecutive six-year period, a member of the Miller's Gun Center's founding Miller family won the crown of the Delaware State Skeet Championship. The late John Miller Sr. won in it 1969 and 1970. Then at age 13, son Bob became the youngest in the skeet shooting history to win a state overall championship in 1971 and repeated the feat in 1972. Bob's brother John won it in 1973 and again in 1974. The Miller family represents a sports shooting legacy that includes Bob and John's late mother Rosemary as well. "Mom dominated women's trapshooting in Delaware for a decade, winning the state title eight times in nine attempts," says Bob. "She was named to the Sports Afield's Women's All-American team in 1969, '70, '71,'72, '73 and '74. She remains the only amateur shooter to make both the All-American Trap and Skeet teams the same year (1969). It's never been done before or since. She is also in the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame." John Jr. retired from the business this past June with a laundry list of distinctive accomplishments of his own. "John is the only individual to win state championships in trap, skeet and sporting clays," Bob notes. "And he is the only Delawarean who is a member of both the Delaware Skeet and the Delaware Trap Shooting Hall of Fame." "At Miller's, we don't just talk about shooting sports," says Bob, "we live it." Today, Miller's Gun Center stocks more than $1 million in merchandise, including more than 150 Browning over-and-under shotguns and more than 500 shotguns overall. "We are one of the largest Browning dealers east of the Mississippi," notes Bob. Miller's features all major handgun lines including Glock, Sig Sauer, Kimber and Beretta. "We are a full-service firearms store, including repairs," Bob adds. The Millers have built the shooting sports in Delaware well beyond the confines of their store. Sr. founded the Delaware Skeet shooting Association in 1970, believing that each state should have its own independent association. Since 1987, Bob has served that state association as vice-president, president and is currently the association's treasurer from 1992 to present. "My father guided duck and dove hunting trips in Mexico for a decade," Bob said, "and my brother has probably fired a million rounds in his lifetime, including hunting in Mexico. And John, a few years ago, went on a hunting trip in Argentina. John shot trap, skeet and sporting clays, winning numerous state trap championships. Bob has spent his life demonstrating his expertise in the art of shooting. Bob has been shooting since age 10, breaking his first 100x100 at the age of 12. He has won the Delaware State Skeet Championships 11 times and 25 state skeet gauge championships. He has been a member of the All-Zone Skeet Team in 2004/2005 and an All American as a Junior Shooter in 1971 and 1972. He has also won many prestigious competitions, including the Delmarva Open 12 Gauge event three times. He was inducted into the Delaware State Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 2002. Gun Center takes pride in a staff that can boast over 151 years of combined experience in shooting. Everyone on staff offers proven expertise and skilled guidance in the field of shooting. Jock has been with Miller's for 17 years. An experienced hunter, he is a former member of the National Skeet Shooting Association, is a member of the Atglen Sportsman's association and a certified shotgun instructor. Larry and Gary bring valuable hunting experience to Miller's customers. Larry, who has been with Miller's for 15 years, has 25 years of experience in waterfowl and deer hunting. Gary has 40 years of competitive shooting and hunting, and also offers experience in home defense and self defense. John "Boot" brings a different perspective to shooting. A former U.S. Marine, Delaware State Range officer and Wilmington Police officer, John has been involved in shotgun target sports for more than 25 years. Phil has been an avid waterfowl hunter, skeet and sporting clays shooter for 25 years. He is also an NRA certified pistol instructor and a competitive IPSC pistol shooter. With such a experienced, talented and knowledgeable group, customers can feel confident in receiving assistance from anyone on staff at Miller's Gun Center.
